The Gazprom Concept was an ambitious competition winning design trumping Koolhaas, Herzog & de Meuron, Nouvel, Libeskind and Fuksas.
The Detail Design Development team successfully developed the project without significant visual changes to the competition design, and obtained planning approval from a building authority with limited experience with super-tall (CTBUH definition) buildings. This required mirroring international and Russian teams combining international know how with local expertise.
The project is technically challenging with a free-form double facade created by floor plates that rotate 90 degrees over the height of the building. The geometrically complicated facade was tested for the extreme local weather conditions and approved both internationally and in Russia.
